All fares booked online are offered a discount, seasonal specials can also be available online, terms and conditions apply.  Note that our specials are NOT available via the ticket office. If you encounter a problem while making your reservation please contact our reservation office PRIOR to completing your reservation and payment.
 

Is the ferry cheaper than driving?

This is one of the most frequently asked questions. People tend to think about the costs on the hip pocket and not the total costs of driving.

There is a popular myth that taking the ferry is more expensive than driving around the Spencer Gulf. Most people only consider the fuel outlay associated with driving around and not the FULL cost. an analysis conducted for Sea SA by accounting firm and transport industry experts, Davidsons DE & M, revealed that fuel costs only account for 28% of the total outlay. Taking into account the full costs of driving around, such as wear and tear on the vehicle, insurance, depreciation on the vehicle value (not to mention the personal toll of accident risk and stress due to speeding fines, pot holes and driver fatigue), the picture is very different.
 

How often do we travel?

Our timetable changes seasonally. For the most up to date timetable information please check our timetable page. Any last minute changes can be found on our message board  on our website, social media or by calling the office direct if you are unsure.
 

How do I get to Wallaroo?

Travel by car from Adelaide on National Highway One to Port Wakefield, then follow highway B85 to Kadina, through to Wallaroo. Along the way you will see blue ferry signs directing you to the Sea SA terminal at Wallaroo. You can also place your current destination into Google Maps.
 

How do I get to Lucky Bay (near Cowell)?

From Port Lincoln or Whyalla, follow the Lincoln Highway, turn off for Lucky Bay is signed on the highway. The Lucky Bay road is fully sealed. You can also place your current destination into Google Maps.
 

Is secure parking available?

Car parking is available at both terminals, however is NOT secure and Sea SA Pty Ltd does not take responsibility for the cars of passengers left at either terminal. There is no parking within the ferry terminal facility however there are two car parks that offer free parking on either side of the terminal. Parking at the Lucky Bay terminal is also free, but not secure; please talk to the friendly staff at Lucky Bay as to where to leave your vehicle.

Can Hire cars be taken across on the ferry?

Budget rent-a-car Port Lincoln (08 8684 3668) & Adelaide Airport (08 8418 7300) have agreements in place so that hire cars can be taken safely across on the ferry. Please check your terms and conditions of car hire for more information.
 

Is payment required upon booking?

All reservations made online receive a discount and require payment by visa or mastercard at the time of booking.

Bookings made by the reservation office are only confirmed once payment has been made. EFTPOS and Credit card facilities are available at both terminals and cash is also accepted. Cheques are not accepted and will not be accepted as form of payment.

Direct Deposit payments can be made however payment must be received prior to the date of departure.

Bookings made on the day of departure must be made 3 hours prior to the scheduled departure time. Bookings that are made after this time will not be able to be made online and will not receive an online discount.

Reservations using a credit or voucher MUST be called through to the reservations office as voucher payments are not accepted online, no discounts are available with credit/voucher bookings at this point of time.
 

Discounts

When making a reservation online an automatic discount will apply to your reservation.

If a seasonal special is available please be sure to follow all steps for obtaining the discount. You will not receive two discounts (the online and seasonal discount). Should the discounted fare not calculate properly please do not pay the fare, contact our reservation office immediately email: This email address is being protected from spambots. Please note that seasonal discounts have their own separate terms and conditions that may vary from our general terms and conditions. Please check the terms and conditions of the seasonal specials before booking.
 

Do I have to take my car?

No, you not need to take a vehicle on the ferry. Walk on passengers and bicycles are more than welcome, however transfers to and from the ferry terminal are to be made by the passenger and is not the responsibility of Sea SA Pty Ltd.
 

Is the driver included in the cost of the vehicle fare?

No, the driver is not included and needs to be added to the booking when making a reservation.
 

Can my vehicle travel unaccompanied?

Yes, however the vehicle must be registered and have someone at each terminal to drop off and collect. Sea SA accepts NO responsibility for the vehicle travelling unaccompanied. Normal vehicle rates apply and staff should be notified upon booking and check in if this is what you wish to do.
 

At what age can children travel unaccompanied on the ferry?

Children under the age of 15 are not permitted to travel without the care of an adult. No exceptions.
 

Do I need to pre-book? If so how far in advance?

Yes, we advise all of our clients to pre-book to avoid disappointment. Pre-booking can also entitle you to a discount fare if available.

Peak travel times are generally during Easter and school holiday periods, public holidays, long weekends and the Christmas/new year (from 26th December through to the 8th of January). Please check the timetable for any additional services during these times.
 

Can I take my pet on the ferry?

Pets are very welcome and are able to travel at no charge. For health and safety reasons pets cannot enter the accommodation/cafe areas.

Limited undercover seating is available outside of the accommodation area if you wish to take your pet out of the car alternatively pets can stay in the vehicle during the sailing. A crew member will be required to accompany you to check on your pet during sailing.
 

Is there a frequent traveller program?

What are the rules about carrying luggage on the ferry?

Walk on passengers are able to take personal cabin luggage only. Luggage racks are supplied on the vessel. Luggage is stored at the passengers own risk. Sea SA takes no responsibility for misplaced or lost luggage.

Freight – including boxes, eskies, swags and sack truck etc (please call reservations on 08 8823 0777 if clarification is required) will not be accepted on board unless it is transported in a registered vehicle.

 

What are the rules for carrying dangerous goods (including gas and fuel)?

Dangerous goods vehicles will not be carried on board the vessel. Refrigerated containers will not be allowed to be operational at sea. No dangerous goods of any kind will be carried on board unless in an approved container and secured in your vehicle.
 

I need to cancel or change my reservation, what do I do?

To change or alter your reservation please contact reservations on 08 8823 0777 PRIOR to commencement of your first leg of travel. Changes to your reservation can be made, however some charges may apply, depending on the fare type booked at the time. Please check your terms and conditions of booking.

Cancellation of fares must also be made by contacting reservations. Fares will be held in credit for 12 months and a credit voucher will be provided. Credit vouchers can be transferred at the voucher holders consent. As per terms and conditions our fares are non-refundable.
 

Do I have to check in?

Yes, all vehicles and passengers including walk on passengers are required to check in and receive their boarding pass for entry on the vessel. Please note your booking confirmation is NOT your boarding pass. This includes clients who have booked through external agents.
 

Am I required to bring any travel documentation?

Bringing your printed confirmation is helpful but not necessary. Having your booking number with you on arrival is also preferred. Check in using your surname is fine however photo I.D will be required.

Clients travelling with a student card or pension concession card must show their I.D on arrival.
 

What time do I need to check in prior to departure?

You are required to arrive at the terminal at least 30 minutes prior to departure. Sea SA Pty Ltd takes no responsibility for missed ferry departures due to late check in times.
 

Do I drive my own car onto the ferry?

Yes, you do drive your own car onto the ferry. Should you need assistance please advise our crew who will be more than happy to help.
 

If I am first on the ferry with my car, will I be first off?

It will depend on where your vehicle ends up being positioned on the vehicle deck of the ferry.
 

How long is the sailing?

The sailing takes just over 2 hours each way. Each crossing is approximately 60 kilometres across the Spencer Gulf.
 

Do I have access to my car during sailing?

For our clients safety it is safer not to access your vehicle during sailing, however if you need to, please ask one of our friendly crew who will be happy to assist you.

You are not able to sit in your car during the sailing.
 

Do you have facilities for wheelchairs or passengers who are mobility impaired?

Our vessel is equipped for those who are mobility impaired on the car deck level of our accommodation area only. Access to higher levels is by stair access only. Disabled bathroom facilities are available on the bottom accommodation area also.

Please ensure you make staff aware of your requirements upon making your reservation and when you check in so we are able to make your voyage as comfortable as possible.
 

Is food & EFTPOS facilities available on board the vessel?

A variety of hot & cold food and drink is available for purchase at our on board cafe. We do offer limited options for gluten free, vegetarian and diabetic patrons. Please check current menu for what can be available. Also note from time to time some options on our menu are not available, our staff on board will be able to advise anything that is not available.

EFTPOS facilities are available on board our vessel. A minimum spend may be required (AUD $10), check with the cashier for full requirements. We do not offer ‘cash out facilities’.
 

What facilities are available on board?

Built to latest world standards our vessel's on-board features include; an air-conditioned hospitality lounge, cafe, movie theatre, kids play zone (with TV)*, wireless internet access, outdoor observation deck, disabled access and bathroom facilities.

*Children's toys are not available for hygiene and safety reasons. Please feel free to bring your own toys for your children to play with in the children's play area.
 

Do you offer internet access?

Wireless internet access is available at a charge. Vouchers can be purchased from the on-board cafe.
