Dredging of Lucky Bay Harbour to Commence

In preparation for the return of the Spencer Gulf ferry service, dredging of the Lucky Bay Harbour and entrance channel was scheduled to commence on 16 November 2011.

Dredging will occur in accordance with the Development Approval for the Lucky Bay Harbour (Section 49 DA 49/922/003/05) which required the owner of the harbour to dredge the harbour and channel on a regular basis and EPA Licence (EPA 33162).

Dredging will occur using a small floating dredge, with material to be deposited on the beach on either side of the harbour and in two locations to the rear of the harbour.

A Dredging (and Marine Excavation) Management and Monitoring Plan (the Plan) has been prepared by engineering firm Tonkin Consulting.

This plan forms part of the EPA Licence and dredging will be undertaken in accordance with the plan. The plan sets out the locations for the deposition of spoil, and the measures that will be followed to ensure the dredging does not result in environmental harm.

Copies of the Licence and the Dredging (and Marine Excavation) Management and Monitoring Plan will be located at the Lucky Bay Ferry Terminal / Kiosk and the District Council of Franklin Harbour office in Cowell whilst operations are ongoing.
