Fairies float onto Ferry

Ferry passengers on the Wallaroo to Lucky Bay ferry were treated to a special surprise appearance by the local Make-A-Wish®Australia “Wish Fairies” on Monday October 1.
In a joint venture with Sea SA to raise community awareness of Make-A-Wish and to provide some fun and entertainment for school holiday travellers, four Wish Fairies 'floated' aboard, handing out balloons and providing face painting, much to the delight of children.

Make-A-Wish®Australia grants cherished wishes to children aged between 4 and 18 living with a life threatening illness.

“We are currently in the process of granting our 3rd wish to a local child, and seeing the happiness on these kid’s faces when they see their most cherished wish magically come true, is just wonderful,” said volunteer Belinda Knight. “It is a sad fact that there are more kids on the Yorke Peninsula who are eligible to receive a wish and we’ll do whatever we can to make their wishes come true – If that means dressing up as fairies and skipping around on the Ferry then that’s what we’ll do!”

Whilst on board, Belinda spoke briefly about the work the local Wish Fairies have done since their inception almost 2 years ago. Passengers were invited to view a DVD showcasing one of the recently granted wishes and encouraged to ask questions about any aspect of the wish granting process.

“We are truly grateful to the Captain and staff of Sea SA for allowing us this opportunity to come on board. We certainly had a lot of fun and hope that the passengers did too,” Belinda said.
Sea SA has been running its passenger and vehicle ferry service between Wallaroo and Lucky Bay since December 8, 2006. “Locals have supported us from the outset and we are glad to be able to give something back to the community to show our appreciation. By having the local Make-A-Wish Wish Fairies on board we are able to help them achieve their goal of reaching more eligible children in the community,” said Sea SA spokesperson, Justine Day.
