Loud Shirt Day
Friday 16th May
At Sea SA we're getting behind Loud Shirt Day to help raise vital finds for hearing impaired and deaf children this Friday. Our staff and crew will be wearing their loud shirts - and you're welcome to come dressed for the party too!
A gold coin donation sausage sizzle, thanks to Des's Meat Store of Kadina, and Price's Bakery of Wallaroo, gets under way at 10am and again at 1pm, and gold coin donations can be made on board the ferries too!
You could also WIN a return ferry cruise for 1 vehicle and 2 passengers valued at $360 by entering the lucky prize draw raffle! All proceeds will support this very worthy cause.
Many people aren’t aware that deafness is Australia’s most common disability in
children at birth with one child in every 300 born deaf.
By raising vital funds on Loud Shirt Day you will be helping children who are deaf and
hearing-impaired to develop clear natural spoken language so they may fully participate in
their local community, school and the hearing world.
There are five Centres throughout Australia that teach children to achieve spoken
communication through intensive infant and preschool programs. These programs assist
children in acquiring speech and language with the use of appropriate listening devices (eg,
hearing aids or cochlear implants).
From diagnosis, therapists work to build a child’s listening and speaking skills from infancy sound by sound, syllable by syllable, word by word, achieving remarkable speech and communication skills. The first five years of a child’s life are critical for language development.
The services provided enable families to gain the knowledge, understanding and confidence
needed as the primary decision-makers, caregivers and teachers of their own children. 93% of these students graduate to attend mainstream school with their hearing peers. The program saves the community over $400,000 for every child taught at these centres, as most of the children are able to progress without special schooling. This can only be achieved through the support and generosity of people like us!
Thank you for your support! |
