New Lucky Bay road gets seal of approval

The $1.93 million upgrade of the Lucky Bay road from the Lincoln Highway to the Sea SA ferry terminal, was finally completed and opened to motorists on 12 September 2008.

The 13 kilometre stretch of previously unsealed road now offers bitumen all the way along what has become a major tourism and transport route since Sea SA commenced its ferry service in December 2006.

“We are delighted that this joint project of the federal and state governments has been completed  in time for the upcoming school holidays, when road safety is paramount,” Sea SA Managing Director, Stephanie Dawson said.

“To date, we have carried more than 135,000 passengers and over 50,000 vehicles by ferry across the Spencer Gulf, ranging from motorbikes up to B-Double trucks, and feel confident that the improved road conditions will encourage more motorists to take the ‘short-cut’ between the Yorke and Eyre Peninsulas,” Stephanie said.
